July 1999 Newsletter
July Meeting
The July meeting will be held at COUNTRY GARDEN
AQUATIC NURSERY in the southwest valley in Laveen.The owner, Steve
E., will be speaking to us about container water gardening and other related
subjects.Steve has been gardening all his life and opened his aquatic
nursery 6 years ago.Normally, he sells only wholesale, but has agreed
to allow us to purchase plants after his presentation.He sells plants
that he has had experience growing in the Valley and knows will do well
here.He has a full selection of Plants: Lilies (hardy, tropical, dwarf,
night bloomers, bog), iris, cattails, Sagittarius, bog plants, lots of
hyacinth, rushes (zebra, white, hard stem, three square, spike, common),
green tail, umbrella palms, papyrus, clovers, parrots feather, primrose
creeper, submerged grasses, etc.Now is the time to get that plant you've
always wanted!He will also have some miscellaneous hard goods available
- fish food, lily fertilizer, etc.Be sure to bring your lawn chairs.

Our thanks to Ed & Lisa T. for housing the
June meeting.Everything was great, the pond was gorgeous and the refreshments
were unbelievable! We would also like to thank Diane M. for making the
arrangements to have our July meeting at the COUNTRY GARDEN AQUATIC NURSERY.

ADVANCE TICKET SALES FOR THE TUCSON
POND TOUR
Tickets for the Tucson Pond Tour to be held on
September 11 can be purchased in advance.The tour will include 5-6 ponds
and the tickets are $6.00 per person.We will be collecting checks (made
out to The Tucson Watergardeners) at the July 10 meeting.All checks will
be mailed to the Tucson club and the pond tour tickets will be distributed
at the August 14 meeting.If you are unsure about ordering in advance,
tickets can be purchased the morning of the tour at various nurseries in
the Tucson area. The nursery locations will be announced at the August
meeting.
New Editors for Pond Happenings
Our thanks goes to Janay and Alan C. who have served
as the POND HAPPENINGS editors for the past two years.The torch has been
passed. This issue marks the first one edited by new editors Steve B. and
Gary R..Steve joined the GPPS as a result of the 1998 Pond Tour.He grew
up around ponds helping his father raise tropical lilies until a few years
ago.He now has a small courtyard pond of his own.

experiences with the GREATER PHOENIX POND SOCIETY.Contributing articles
to POND HAPPENINGS is also a great way to become involved with the society.We
are seeking all types of writers, members who write once in a while or
those who have monthly columns.
