Ertle and Myrtle have been given a new lease on life. Ertle is a New England Reese’s Turtle and the companion of Myrtle, a Slider about 15 years old. Both were rescued from a stock tank with no plants and no hiding spaces. They had only a cinder block to sunbathe on. Their companions were 5 large koi and 3 comets. Although all were healthy and not abused, their habitat was clearly not the most desirable. The koi have joined “Shorty” Routh’s growing community of rescues. The turtles are residing in the author’s 3500 gallon “natural” pond with lots of plants, goldfish companions and rocks for sunbathing. |
